Gym Tips
Do you have a gym membership, but haven't used it in a while? Or if you do go, you find yourself doing the same old boring machines? We know how easily it can be to fall into a boring routine. Trust us, we've been there. We have compiled a few different exercises to rev up your workout! Try something new, give these a go and let us know what you think.
First off, lets tackle the treadmill. Whether you use the treadmill for your entire workout, or just to warm up, here are some tips to change up your treadmill time. The incline feature that these treadmills have is a great tool for burning calories! Instead of running/jogging/walking on a small incline or no incline for an extended period of time, change it up by increasing the incline percentage every few minutes. Below are some examples of how to try this.
3% incline for 5 min.
then
5% incline for 10 min
then
2% incline for 4 minutes
then
7 % for 3 minutes
then
5% incline for 3 minutes
You can do these variations at an incline and speed that is best for you.
Kettle ball swings can be so beneficial for the body. When used properly, these kettle ball swings work out your hamstrings, glutes, abdominal, and arm muscles. Try 3 sets of 10 using a 10 lb kettle ball. After one set, if you feel the ball is too light, then move up to a 15 or 20 lb. If your gym doesn't have any kettle balls available, use a dumbbell.
One of our favorites, mountain climbers! This exercise is great for total body toning. Simply grab a mat and get into push-up position. Bring one knee up at a time towards your elbow. Bring your knee back down and alternate knees while increasing the speed until you are at a comfortable speed. Try 3 sets of 30.
Elliptical machines are a great way to get a quick workout in if you are in hurry or if you just want to get some great heart rate action. Next time you get on this elliptical, try pedaling backwards. This works out your glutes while improving your over all balance. Try letting go of the handles and place your hands at your hips to maintain stability. The incline percentage is a great fat burner also, so make sure you increase the resistance and incline to get the most out of your workout.
Another great workout that you can do on a mat are Russian Twists. This exercise is great for the obliques and also helps get rid of those love handles. Simply sit on the mat while holding a dumbbell, ball, free weight, or kettle ball. Twist from left to right, then right to left while holding your weight. Do this while keeping a tight core and not letting your feet touch the ground. Try 3 sets of 15.
Lastly we have the Stair Master. If you are not a fan of climbing stairs (who really is?), then try these butt-blasting exercises to get your glutes toned up! When you get up on the stair master, stay on a low speed. With each step you take, kick up your opposite foot, while keeping the leg as straight as possible. Repeat with the opposite leg. Try 3 sets of 15.
If you try any of these exercises, let us know how you liked them!
